Here it is July already! The rivers are again flowing deep with muddy water. Mosquitoes are plentiful. Farmer’s seeds are rotting in the fields. Harvesting hay is nearly impossible.  Peacekeepers are struggling to survive. International leaders are being tried for crimes against humanity. Older generations are passing the world to younger generations. The wisdom of the elderly is leaving with them. Peace remains an elusive goal in the heart of mankind.

BUT! With your help the soldiers of the Lord will continue to march forward winning souls for Heaven. In the midst of violence in weather, war and crimes, peace comes to one soul at a time.

In prison cells at midnight, after lights go out, prisoners cry out to a God they do not yet know and the Spirit of Peace comes to introduce them to Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace. Again and again!! Peace comes only from the Prince of peace.

Andy

Andy was only 17 when he was incarcerated in Rutland VT and facing a life sentence with no hope for a future. “I was at the end of my rope and wanted to die. My life was a total wreck, in prison facing murder charges; I decided to end it all. I saw a vent in the ceiling of my booking cell. I took a sheet, made a loop and proceeded to hang myself. But something came over me, I began to cry, and the pain that I was feeling in my heart was lifting. I didn’t know who Jesus was, but that night I knew that there was a God and I cried out to him like never before. From that moment God began restoring my life and filling me with joy, peace, and confidence in knowing that He truly cares for me and has forgiven all my sins though His Son Jesus Christ.”

Andy is now 33, completing an offender treatment program that will prepare him for release back into society, possibly on furlough and then lifetime parole. Andy has matured as a Christian leader and is now both an Elder and Worship Leader at The Church At Northwest in St. Albans VT.

Angie

Angie is a young single mother, of two children, who was not long out of prison when we first met her. Her PO asked that we help her with a place to live so that she wouldn’t return to prison for lack of a residence. We were able to help her with a room in our office building. Eventually she got a good job and was able to afford a nice apartment. More recently she was released from probation and in May we helped her relocate to Maryland where she is now working for the Sweetheart/Solo Company.

New Staff

The Church At Prison welcomes three new staff members. Stephen “Steve” Brown (right) was released from NWSCF in 2003 and is now working in our St. Albans office (132 South Main Street) as Administrative Assistant. Presently Steve is developing a new pen pal ministry “Pathways of Freedom”. Kimberly “Kim” Caron (left) has joined The Church At Prison as Bookkeeper. Kim is an Army Veteran who served as an MP in South Korea. She is also daughter of Susie Caron CAP Board Member. Shawn Lane (middle) has taken over the responsibility of Web Master and is redesigning and updating our Web Site. Shawn is also an Army veteran, Correctional Officer and a Criminal Justice Student at Champlain College studying Internet Forensics.

Nigeria 2006

In January Pastor Pete, Ross Anderson (CAP Board Advisor), and John Kinsley from Straight Ahead Ministries joined Pastor Anthony Oluloye, his wife and daughter Dara in Lagos Nigeria for ten days.

During that time we helped sponsor the first annual Prison Ministry Seminar involving many Church Leaders, Government Officials, Prison Volunteers, Ex-convicts, and other interested observers. We also twice visited the Children’s Prison where Pastor Anthony started his prison ministry and has provided a school building with teachers.

Trinidad 2007

The Church at Prison has been working with Adrian Alexander (Trinidad), CEO of Caribbean Umbrella Body For Restorative Behaviour (CURB) www.prisonministry.net/curb. We will be forming a team to travel to Trinidad in early 2007 to assist CURB in sponsoring a Training Conference for Caribbean Prison Ministries.

Another project is a possible training seminar for the Department of Education Staff dealing with children who are being victimized in their homes. This is a serious problem in one part of the island of Trinidad. In January Susie Caron and Pastor Pete had a 90 minute teleconference with Adrian and one of the school counselors working with these children in the elementary schools.

A more long term goal will be to eventually help CURB initiate a task force that will address changes that need to take place to properly address this problem.

We are seeking help in funding this trip so that the ministry in Trinidad won’t be burdened with the whole expense. Please prayerfully consider a donation for “Trinidad 2007”.

Jan Viens

Janice Crady Viens went to be with the Lord Jesus on June 30, 2006 following a long illness. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 52 years, Lyman Viens. She is also survived by six children, 19 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren and one on the way. Jan loved the Lord Jesus and her passion was to serve Him. She traveled on her own as a missionary in Malawi in Africa in 1989 to preach the gospel and give aid to the people there. In 1992 and 2001 she and Lyman traveled to Israel during the Feast of the Tabernacle to volunteer for the Christian Embassy in Jerusalem.

Jan and Lyman were among the first volunteers with The Church At Prison to work with released ex-convicts. Their home was always open to those in need of their help and love. I have fond memories of Jan welcoming us for a visit with a cup of coffee and treats. A visit to her home was special as were her hugs. Now she is in the presence of other brave Christians who preceded her. PRAISE GOD!

We look forward to bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ into fields that are ripe for the harvest. You may not be able to be directly involved but you can pray for us and send a donation to: The Church At Prison. Please prayerfully consider your support of this important ministry. With your help we will continue building God’s Kingdom one soul at a time.

God Bless you!

Pastor Pete
